Hear your first Morse — right here

This page carries a tiny slice of the real trainer. Press play to hear the two characters every Koch-method student starts with, sent at full character speed. While you listen, the full app is being warmed up in the background.

Warming up the app…

K and M — your first two characters

K −·−     M −−

Full speed from the first beep — that's the Koch method. The app adds a third character only once you copy these two at 90% accuracy.

How the other drills work

NATO phonetic

The app plays "Lima – Echo – X-ray" and you type LEX against the clock; then it flips and shows letters you must voice. Both directions, until callsigns are automatic.

Q codes

QTH? asks "what is your location" — QTH Paris states it. Every code is drilled in question and statement form, exactly as exchanged on air.

Spaced repetition

Every character, letter, and code gets its own review schedule. 25 reviews a day on the free license is enough to keep a growing catalog sharp.

Why start with K and M?

The Koch method never slows the characters down — it limits how many you juggle. K and M are maximally distinct rhythms, so your ear learns to recognise shapes instead of counting dits and dahs. Once you copy these two at 90% accuracy the app introduces a third character, and the review scheduler quietly keeps the earlier ones warm. It feels slower than cramming the whole alphabet from a chart; it is dramatically faster to real copy speed, which is why it has been the standard for serious CW training since Ludwig Koch's original experiments.

Ready for the real thing?

The full app tracks mastery per character, unlocks Send mode for keying practice, and hosts live On Air rooms. Free license, no card — first 10 Morse characters included.
